EN590 Diesel
EN 590 diesel procurement guidance focused on sulfur specification, assay evidence, storage, loading documentation and destination controls.
Executive overview
EN 590 is a European standard for automotive diesel fuel; the fuel’s actual conformity must be demonstrated against the version and national implementation applicable to the transaction. The commonly cited 10 mg/kg sulfur limit is a specification requirement, not proof that any offered cargo meets it. Buyers need a current certificate of quality and an independent testing plan.
Diesel cargoes are sold from refining and trading hubs across Europe, the Middle East, Asia and elsewhere. Availability, freight, storage, blend composition, tax status and destination rules affect delivered economics. Supply region alone does not establish origin, quality or lawful export.
Procurement risks include relying on a stale SGS report, confusing a specification sheet with a cargo certificate, and failing to verify title, terminal access, sanctions screening or import licensing. Buyers should match tank, batch, bill of lading, certificate of quality and quantity, and make acceptance testing and claims procedures explicit.

Typical origins
Refining and trading hubs operate in Europe, the Middle East and Asia; origin, quality and lawful export require transaction-specific evidence.
Supply capabilities
A disciplined mandate records the measurable specification, quantity, delivery window, destination, inspection method, documentary requirements and counterparty authority before an introduction. Verified facts should come from primary records; common commercial practice is identified as such, and strategic recommendations remain subject to counsel and technical review.
9Delves supports counterparty research, document organization and commercial coordination without guaranteeing supply, price or transaction outcome. Claims about current availability, capacity, permits and shipment history require transaction-specific evidence.
International logistics
Diesel moves by product tanker, barge, rail, pipeline and truck depending on route. Identify loading and discharge terminals, storage and throughput rights, custody transfer, blending, quantity and quality measurement, demurrage, insurance and Incoterms®.
Trade finance compatibility
Trade finance structures are transaction-specific. Documentary credits, including arrangements subject to UCP 600 when incorporated, require bank approval and compliant documents. Payment terms, inspection, title, sanctions and import controls must be reviewed independently; no financing or bank instrument is implied.
Our due diligence process
9Delves begins with a precise mandate and counterparty map. We verify corporate identity, authority, beneficial ownership, operating claims, documentation, and relevant shipment history. Product specifications and inspection requirements are defined before commercial discussions advance. We then align logistics, compliance, payment terms, and responsibilities so that each party understands the next decision. Findings are recorded clearly; unresolved questions remain visible rather than being treated as assumptions.
Our role is advisory and coordinative. We do not represent unverified supply, guarantee a transaction, or replace legal, sanctions, tax, or technical advisers. We help principals make better-informed decisions and maintain a professional process across borders.
